Club
Multi-terrain Champs - within the Ted Pepper Memorial 10k, Norman Park, 4
May 2026
Blackheath and Bromley AC
hold this race each year in memory of Ted Pepper, who tragically lost
his life in the Three Peaks race in 1978.
Originally a road race of
nearly 7 miles, the distance was later reduced to 10k, and eventually
(for safety) changed to a multi terrain event.
Race Day weather was
perfect for running, cooler than the previous day, overcast with some
dampness in the air, and very light winds.
Runners collected their
numbers on the day, and thanks to Race director Dave Beadle and his
team, the usual superb course marking and marshalling ensured a great
race experience for all. The Race HQ is perfect, with excellent hot
refreshments available upstairs, and changing and showers below. Next to
the Norman Park track.
Sports Systems supported
the race with great efficiency, delivering our SCVAC results as soon as
our final runner crossed the finish line.
All medallists attended
the medal presentations, held by Mick Jefferies, and a pleasant social
mingle completed a good day for the club.
An annual trophy for the
best age-graded performance was awarded in 2025 to Mike Davies. Mike
managed to retain the trophy with his 2026 run, with very strong
competition from Mark Pitcairn-Knowles. Congratulations to both these
fine athletes, with exceptional scores on such a tough course.
We encourage more runners
to attend next year: don’t expect fast
times, but do
expect a great experience and an enjoyable day out!
(Deborah McCarthy really
liked her free socks – in the colours of
Istead and Ifield,
i.e. purple!)

Mark Pitcairn-Knowles(V60), Mike Davies(V75),
Andy Catton(V70), Debs McCarthy(V55).
