SCVAC league final 31 August 2024, Horspath, Oxford
Ray Garland from Basingstoke with John Oxley - And the
Wimbledon Ladies Manager
After a gap of 5 years since the last final in 2019 due to COVID initially
and Arthur Kimber stepping down, it was clear to see how the clubs involved
at Horspath embraced the competition. There were very few gaps in the
events.
The winners
from the 6 SCVAC associated Masters leagues from the South east took part
(with 2nd place from Kent also in the mens)
There was a
full list of events (apart from Hurdles or steeple chase) There was also a
fantastic turn out of officials on the track, Time keepers and Field
officials. Thank you to Richard Hart and his team from Oxford City for
organising the event this year.
Wimbledon
women’s team led for most of the day with Tonbridge never letting them get
too far ahead. The winning margin was eventually 0.5 point!! Wimbledon
268. Tonbridge 267.5.
The Men’s event
was led by Basingstoke throughout and were awarded the win at the end of the
day. However due to a software error in the results that was noticed after
manual counts it turned out that Tonbridge AC had tied with Basingstoke!!!
Two amazing
results.
Nina Ridge W50
of Tonbridge AC was awarded the trophy for the highest scoring individual of
the day.

Club
Multi-terrain Champs - within the Ted Pepper Memorial 10k, Norman Park, 6
May 2024
On Monday 6th May a small but select team
of members took part in the club's Multi-terrain Championship held
within the Ted Pepper 10k race in Norman Park, Bromley organised by
Blackheath and Bromley Harriers AC. The weather was awful with
continuous heavy rain throughout the race reducing the cross country
section to a quagmire resulting in several slips and tumbles but despite
this some good times were recorded with Steven Hough managing an 8th
place finish overall.

The BMAF Cross
Country Inter-Area Championships took place in Corwen North Wales
last Saturday 16th March where 13 intrepid SCVAC members made
the long journey to compete. Against some very strong opposition they
all performed really well especially John Exley, first M75, Caroline
Wood, 2nd W60 and Andrew Catton, 3rd M70.
